Thatâs all there is to squashing commits with Git! Squashing can be a useful tool for cleaning up your commit history and making your codebase easier to understand. The rebase operation is now complete and your two commits have been squashed into one.Letâs say you have 3 commits in your responsive-ui branch and you want to squash them into a single commit. Edit the commit message to reflect the changes made in the squashed commit, then save and close the editor. To squash commits, we have to use git rebase instead.Git will now reapply the first commitâs changes onto the second commit and open an editor for you to edit the commit message for the combined commit. Use the git rebase -i HEAD.This tells Git to squash the first commit into the second commit. Git squashing is done by merging the previous N number of commits into a single commit. Change the word âpickâ on the first commit to âsquashâ.
